Ice Dam Removal
Ice Dam = Property Damage
Icicles hanging from your roof and gutters may be pretty but they often signal the presence of an ice dam and property damage may soon follow. Additionally, large icicles overhead are dangerous to you, family, and friends.
Ice dams are a blockade of ice on your roof and or gutters that stops melted water from draining away. The melted water pools above the dam and seeps under your shingles finding its way through your roof and into your attic insulation and onto your ceiling. Such water damage reduces your insulation effectiveness and causes unsightly water spots on your ceiling. Worse, water may even drip onto your furniture, floors, and valuables. Water inside your home may also lead to mold and/or mildew, and really should be avoided whenever possible. Additionally, the water that gets stuck under your shingles or in your roof material refreezes as temperatures fall in the evening. And as the freezing water expands, it slowly destroys your roof.
Ice dams are also heavy and allow more and more snow to accumulate on your roof. Too much snow and ice on a roof can lead to a life threatening roof collapse and must be avoided at all times. Also, ice accumulation in one's gutter can cause gutters to sag and eventually tear off the house, leaving a mess and a costly repair.
Damage Caused by Ice Dams is Avoidable
Ice dams occur when heat from inside your home or sunlight melts roof snow and the water trickles down, but refreeze before it can make it to the ground. Ice dams can be prevented through proper attic insulation and plenty of ventilation. Regardless of the amount of insulation, some heat will escape and head for your room. Lots of ventilation allows warm air to escape while pulling in cold air ideally keeping your attic and roof the same temperature as the outdoors.
Ice Dams Should be Removed as Soon as Possible.
